Bertrand Russell was a great British Philosopher, mathematician and social reformer of the 20th century, and a Nobel Prize winner in 1950. He campaigned against nuclear arms.
Although Bertrand Russell in no way can be called as having favourable views about Islamic teacings and in reality he wasn’t even least sympathetic to Islam.
Bertrand Russell was an agnostic himself but even then he had to accept the greatness of Islamic civilization comapred to west. He says:
“Our use of the phrase ‘the Dark Ages‘ to cover the period from 699 to 1000 marks our undue concentration on Western Europe….
From India to Spain, the brilliant civilization of Islam flourished.
What was lost to Christendom at this time was not lost to civilization, but quite the contrary…. To us it seems that West-European civilization is civilization; but this is a narrow view.”1
